Feed My Sheep Soup Kitchen Welcomes New Director, Seeks Volunteers and Donations

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Feed My Sheep Community Soup Kitchen in Havre is bustling with activity and has a new Director.

Evelyn Foursouls has transitioned into the Director position and says they are serving a record number of people.

“There are sandwiches, sack lunches and trays. I’ve been doing 50 trays and 50 sack lunches. We have been running out of those.”

Board member Sarah McKinney says Foursouls has changed up the menu for the better.

“She cooks from scratch a lot,” says Board member Sarah McKinney. “She’s really good at using things that are donated so it gets used but not overused. Food handling is a big concern, so she’s good about that. Just making things kind of taste more homemade. Yeah, we’ve had some great lunches lately. People coming back for seconds. She’s a very creative cook. So I appreciate that about her.”

While Foursouls prepares meals five-days-a-week, McKinney says Judy Neely continues to serve her signature meals on Saturday.

“She is still staunchly on her Saturday duties. She is also an amazing cook … Judy will still be manning the helm on Saturdays. So nobody should get worried about losing Judy. Evelyn handles the food and serving Mondays through Fridays. We’re closed Sundays, and Judy is still on Saturdays. So I don’t want anyone to worry about that.”

With demand having increased, the Kitchen continues to seek volunteers and donations.

“If (someone) wants to volunteer, just show up Monday through Saturday,” says McKinney. “The food prep usually starts around 9-ish, I’d say. If you don’t want to do food, there’s always something to clean or meals to pack or sandwiches to make. There’s always a simple task, which is why we’ve always invited people to bring their kids to volunteer. Because there’s something for every age: wiping tables, crossing off barcodes, there’s just simple things that families can do together.”

Items they are in need of include meat, cheese, chips and sandwich bags.

The Kitchen is open for lunch from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM Monday through Saturday.
