HELENA, Mont. (NMB) –Four of the five federal firefighters that were injured after a sudden wind shift blew a wildfire in Garfield County back over their position on Thursday have been released from the hospital as of Monday, while the other continues to be treated for burns.
Two of the firefighters work for the Forest Service, while three work for Fish and Wildlife.
As of Monday morning, the Devil’s Creek Fire is at 11,000 acres with 0 percent containment and is approaching Fort Peck Reservoir. This is after it was estimated at just 375 acres on Friday.
Due to the wildfire, federal authorities have closed all of Devils Creek Road in Garfield County and are urging recreationists to stay clear of the area.
The wildfire is lighting-caused and is burning on rough, steep terrain 36 miles northwest of Jordan.
