HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission has announced that following an outpouring of criticism, they are no longer pursuing a proposal that would have limited elk season permits.
The proposal would have created a different set of rules for the hunting of elk on public and private land in eight hunting districts. The public land hunters would have had the same permit system, while private land hunting would have moved to a general license.
FWP says they made these proposals because elk in the districts are over 200 percent above population objectives and are overcrowding private land.
