FORT BELKNAP, Mont. (NMB) – This year’s edition of the Fort Belknap Mid-Winter Fair runs through Saturday, with most of the activities taking place at the Bingo Hall in Harlem.
Fair Committee Chairman Robert Fox says this annual event has been in existence for more than 50 years, providing people an opportunity to get together during the winter.
“People would be kind of like getting cabin fever. So the elders thought it would be a time to gather the tribal people here and just showcase their beadwork and their agricultural products.”
All of the activities, which range from food and dance contests to an art and quilt show to a jerky making workshop, are free to attend.
“I just want to extend an invitation to all the people along the Hi-Line to come and join us if they want to see a bit of culture or renew old acquaintances or listen to the cultural or traditional music as well as the fiddle music to come see us.”
This year’s fair theme is Envisioning the Future, Embracing the Past. The fair concludes with a Pow Wow on Saturday, which begins at 1 PM
