(Washingtom D.C.) – The Federal Trade Commission is warning consumers of a new scam that involves the scammers pretending to be FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson. The scam starts with routine problems like unauthorized purchases on your account, an account breach at your bank, or a virus on your computer. The scammer say the federal government can help you and transfer you to someone pretending to be FTC Chair Ferguson. The scammer says you must move your money to protect it and to transfer money from your bank or retirement account to a supposedly secure account or deposit it at a crypyocurrency ATM allowing the scammers to steal your money. Someone who really works at the FTC will never tell you to move your money to protect it. If you receive this call and think it could be real the FTC says call your bank, broker, investment advisor, or credit card company utilizing contact methods on your account statement. Do not use the scammers contact information. If you are a victim of this scam, the FTC asks that you please report it to report fraud dot ftc dot gov.
