FWP Establishes CWD Management Zone Near Kalispell Following Deer Detection at Landfill

KALISPELL, Mont. — Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks has established a Chronic Wasting Disease Management Zone in Hunting District 170 following the detection of CWD in a whitetail deer near the Flathead County Landfill.

Hunters may now purchase an unlimited 170-20 B License for either-sex whitetail, valid through January 15th, 2026.

The goal is to reduce local deer density to slow the disease’s spread.

FWP also increased the antlerless whitetail B License limit in the district from one to two per hunter.

CWD is a fatal disease affecting deer, elk, and moose.
