(Montana FWP) Montana wildlife officials report they have inspected 10,000 watercraft for aquatic invasive species (AIS) so far this spring, finding 16 of those to have invasive mussels.
According to a release from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP), anyone bringing watercraft into Montana must stop at all open inspection stations before putting it into the water.
Watercraft includes motorized and non-motorized boats, paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, rafts, and pack rafts. Additionally, all watercraft must be drained before transporting.
AIS, which includes non-native plants, animals and pathogens, can cause harm to Montana’s environment and economy, according to FWP.
