HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – The office of Governor Greg Gianforte has provided a readout of a wildland fire briefing he was provided on Wednesday.
As of noon on July 21st, there are 19 large fires in Montana.
Due to threats to structures, the Alder Creek Fire in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest is the number one priority fire in the nation. As of Wednesday, the fire was at 5,676 acres with an unknown cause. Fuels include timber and logging slash.
Since the start of 2021, there have been 1,500 fire starts in Montana, which have burned over 200,000 acres. Over 500 of the fire starts have occurred in July.
