PHILLIPS COUNTY, Mont. (NMB) – A 20-year-old Great Falls man was killed on Tuesday afternoon after the vehicle he was driving hit an approach and went airborne for approximately 100 feet just west of Saco.
Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Matt Erickson says the crash occurred at around 3 PM on US Highway 2 at mile marker 498.1, when a westbound 2012 Ford F350 went off the right side of the road. The vehicle hit an approach and went airborne. It came to rest in a ditch after going through an irrigation canal that was approximately 20 feet wide.
The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body had to be extricated from the vehicle.
Fatigue and excessive speed appear to be factors in the crash, according to Erickson.
The crash remains under investigation and the name of the victim has not been released.
The road was bare and dry.
