NEW YORK CITY (NMB) – The complete skeleton of a dinosaur unearthed in north-central Montana back in 2018 was sold for a hefty price at the Sotheby’s auction house in New York City on Thursday.
The Gorgosaurus skeleton, believed to be 77 million years old, was purchased for $6,069,500 by an anonymous bidder.
The skeleton measures about 10 feet tall and 22 feet long. It was excavated on private land in Chouteau County along the Judith River Foundation.
This was the first specimen of its kind to go up for auction, and the only known one available for private ownership.
The auction house says the new owner will get to give the dinosaur a nickname.
