The Havre basketball teams played their final home games of 2024, hosting Malta in a cross-class showdown. The Blue Ponies were able to pull away from both teams with the boys’s securing a (75-67) win and the girls’ knocking off the M-ettes, (67-56).
For the boys’ (3-1), who took the court first untraditionally with the Class ‘B’ foes in town, they were able to stay hot from the floor, knocking down eight three-pointers. The Mustangs found themselves down by 22 points heading into the fourth quarter, but Kruise Stiles took over, hitting all five of his triples in the frame. But it was too much to overcome as Matt Huse poured in 27 points, while Tre Gary finished with 17. Brayden Ereaux had another double-digit scoring performance with 14.
For the girls’ (3-1), they were able to lead wire-to-wire, but not without a few runs from the M-ettes. Playing this one without Sierra Parker, the Lady Ponies were still able to dictate the flow of the game. Amaya Jarvis led the way with a season-high 21 points, Tierra Parker filled it up with 17 points, while Ariana Gary put in 16 points.
Havre will be back down to Lockwood High for the second East-West Showdown tournament. Their opponents will be Hamilton on Friday and Butte Central Catholic on Saturday.
