In the home opener for the Havre Blue Ponies basketball teams on Saturday night, they went on to sweep the Lockwood Lions. Both teams have undefeated 2-0 records.
For the Blue Pony boys, they got off to a slow start, trailing by 21 points at the half. Havre was able to inch their way back into it with better shooting in the third quarter and then the remarkable happened. The Blue Ponies held the Lions to two total points in the fourth quarter and stormed back to win, (56-53). Junior guard Tre Gary dropped 20 points in the game, while senior guard Shane Patascil had 11 second-half points.
For the Blue Pony girls, they ended up pulling away in a more tightly contested contest, defeating the Lady Lions, (59-51). Sophomore forward Ariana Gary led all scorers with 21 points, followed by sophomore forward Sierra Parker’s 18.
Havre was initially supposed to play Malta in both the boys’ and girls’ ranks, but the girls’ game got moved to Jan. 4. The Havre boys’ will take the court at Malta at 5pm on Tuesday. Tune in to that one on KOJM.
