The Havre boys’ basketball team (7-2) will embark on a two-game stretch at home that sees them play a complete opposite set of opponents.
First up will be Miles City, who coach WaLynn Burgess has seen a lot of over the course of the last five weeks between their appearance at the Blue Pony Corral for the “East-West Showdown” in December followed by a road trip that produced an (88-57) win. Burgess told New Media Broadcasters that having faced them already this season will just be an objective of fine tuning for practices leading up to the game.
“We played Miles City not that long ago during the first week of the month,” Burgess said. “Seeing and knowing them, getting their tendencies, we went through their stuff a little bit more early on in the year, especially being a conference game.”
“(We) just need to retouch some things, rewatch some film, just make sure that we’re tightened up on a couple different things,” Burgess continued. “(We have to) come in ready to go to battle and make sure we are improving every day.”
Next for Havre is a date with the Rams of Billings Central Catholic. Coach Burgess shared that this team is ranked amongst the best in Class ‘A’ every single season and that it is always a goal to aspire to be just as consistent as them.
“Saturday, you bring in a really good Billings Central team ranked in the state being there every year,” Burgess said. “(They’re) really well coached by (Jim) Stergar. (They’ve) got some high-end talent-type kids.”
“It’s going to be a real battle for us. We love those,” Burgess said. “(I’m) glad we get the chance to keep playing those guys and yeah, we’ve had battles nonstop every year since I’ve been here for six years. It’s one of those teams you try and shoot for that are always there towards the end of the year.”
The Havre boys’ will battle the Cowboys on Friday night at 7:30pm followed by BCC on Saturday afternoon at 4pm on KOJM-610AM and HiLineToday.com. Catch the Friday commentary with Noah Friedman.
