HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Though Havre’s City Council only had one item on the agenda Tuesday night, many people showed up to hear the discussion about leasing city land for a dog park.
Several people spoke in support of the dog park agreement before the meeting began. The land is located near the Havre Ice Dome, near the Baltrusch Trail and includes the construction of a parking lot that will also be used as overflow parking for events at the ice rink.
Members of the Havre Dog Park Board discussed the plans for the park, saying they already have $4,000 on hand and have several people lined up who wish to donate.
Council member Erik Meis said he didn’t understand why the city would need a dog park there, when dogs are welcome to run on the trail. In the end, the dog park lease was approved unanimously. The City will charge the organization $1 a year for the lease and Mayor Tim Solomon says that the City’s insurance will cover the dog park.
