HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre City Council held a special meeting on Monday night in order to approve eight ordinances on second reading.
Seven of the eight ordinances are related to the transition to a Charter form of government following the successful ballot initiative last November.
Most of the ordinances are amendments that simply clean up language in current ordinances, such as clarifying that appointments on the City Tree Commission made by the Mayor must then be approved by the City Council.
The other ordinance approved on second reading will update the calculation of building permit fees based on the latest Uniform Building Code. The City had been going off of outdated numbers based on the 1991 Uniform Building Code.
Now that the ordinances have been approved, the City should have enough time to codify the changes by the beginning of the fiscal year on July 1st.
No members of the public provided comment at the meeting.
City Council members Derek Eldridge, Denise Brewer, and Sarah McKinney were all absent, but the Council still had a quorum since the majority of members were present.
The next City Council meeting is scheduled for June 7th at 7 PM.
