(Havre) At least in recent memory, the Eagle Club of Havre has always been the ones “putting on” the Community Christmas dinner in Havre, but this year it was different.
“It’s our first year. It’s always been kind of part of the Eagle Club, it was last year that the Eagle Club decided that maybe ‘hey, you guys are getting big enough, maybe you need to go on your own’ instead of being part of the Eagles Club, [now] it’s just ‘The Havre Community Christmas Dinner'”
While this was the 3rd year that Doug Denny would be the Chairman of the dinner, this was the first time that the Eagles club would merely be the venue of the event, not the primary organizers.
This change appears to have gone well, as Denny reported that while last year they had around 600 plates made when all was said and done, this year they had 650
“About the same. Around 600 last year, about 650ish this year. 650 meals, lets say, because some people eat here and they take a meal to go, so that counts as two because we count to-go boxes and plates”
Denny says that the committee is working filing and becoming its own 501(c)(3) organization, making it an officially non-for profit and tax exempt organization. The event will still be held at the Eagles Club for the foreseeable future, but the organizers are now independent of the Havre Eagles Club. Denny says the dinner itself is not likely to be affected by the change.
