HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre Dog Park Club is hosting a Fun Run/Dog Walk and subsequent Bark in the Park on Saturday, July 13th in an effort to raise money to build a dog park.
Shannon Bergren is a Board member and chair of the fundraising committee for the Havre Dog Park Club and says there will be plenty of activities for everyone at the event.
“We’re going to have a 5k or you can do a one mile walk with your dog,” Bergren said. “Afterwards, we’re going to have vendors and there will be a free-will donation for food. We’re going to have hot dogs and hamburgers. We’ll have face-painting and contests. There will be a best dog costume contest, along with smallest dog and biggest dog, and then best owner-dog look-alike.”
For those that don’t own dogs, Bergren says you could end up adopting one at the event.
“We like to work closely with the local animal control, he’s going to actually be one of the judges for the contest,” Bergren said. “He decided that if he has some well socialized dogs that would do well, he would be able to bring some up for people to socialize with and potentially adopt them.”
Pre-registration for the Fun Run/Dog Walk is available at Old Station Brewery, Eastside Veterinary or Hair of the Dog Grooming and costs $10. Registration on the day of the event is $15 and starts at 8:30am with the race kicking off at 9 am next to the Havre Ice Dome.
If enough money is raised at the event, ground could be broken on the park by the end of the summer. They have raised $6,000 so far but are looking to increase that total to $15,000 before beginning Phase 1 of building the park; which would include adding fencing, benches, garbage cans and gates.
More information on both the Dog Park Club and the upcoming event are available at the Havre Dog Park Club Facebook page.
