(Havre) – The Havre Elks Club is running their annual Blanket and Coat drives which will begin distribution on November 15th and December 13th. Brandy Kurtz the Secretary for the Havre Elks Club talks about the drives.
“So, we’ll be hosting our 2023 blanket drive and this year we’re including the coat drive with that and it’s Thanksgiving to Christmas time and it’s a first come first serve for the distribution. The First distribution is November 15th and the second one will be on December 13th and those start at 6pm in the Elks backroom. And like I said this year were going to include the coat drive to the mix of everything and were looking for clean used coats for kids, adults, babies anything we’ll take it all and that stuff can be dropped off at Western Trailer Sales between 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday or at Havre Elks Lodge from 5pm to sometimes 8pm Monday through Friday.”
She also talks about what inspired the drives.
“This is our 3rd year of doing the blanket drive and last year it turned into comforters and sheets any kind of bedding and the idea behind that was at wintertime not everybody can afford to stay warm with their heat bills their electric bills sometimes and sometimes there on a fixed income and they can’t afford to go out and buy more blankets, more comforters, more stuff. Last year we had an Elderly couple that had taken in their granddaughter and grandson and didn’t have much from the previous place they were taking them in from. So, they came down and got sheets and bedding for the kids and we were able to help them out that way instead of them having to go buy it they were able to pick up enough stuff at our drive to support their grandkids.”
