The Havre girls’ basketball team is embarking on an untouchable record: four straight Class ‘A’ state championships.
One of the ways that the Blue Ponies were so successful from this past run was because of two key freshmen: Amaya Jarvis and Ariana Gary. New Media Broadcasters spoke with head coach Dustin Kraske and he pointed out what makes these now-sophomores so good.
“We expect an awful lot from them,” Kraske said. “They’re two kids that are in the gym a lot. They do a lot of their own work in the offseason.”
“They play a lot of basketball. They enjoy the game,” Kraske continued. “Both of them have gotten a lot better from last year to this year, which is your hope for every kid in our program. It’s exciting for us to have them on our team.”
Kraske also gave the listeners a breakdown of players who he expects to contribute during the 2023-24 season.
“We have ten kids who are at our practice right now,” Kraske said. “I think every one of them will have a role to fill to have our team be as good as it can be.”
“Senior leadership of Kyanna Jarvis, Shea Reber, (and) Emilee Chambliss is back. (Emilee) was off for a year, so we’re happy to have her back,” Kraske continued. “Then we have a couple of (other) sophomores that are up there.”
Kraske’s Blue Ponies are set to take the court on Dec. 8 when they are on the road at East Helena.
