Havre Girls’ Basketball To Open 2023-24 Campaign

The Havre High girls’ basketball team is set to begin the 2023-24 season. It’s finally game week for the Blue Ponies. Coach Dustin Kraske told New Media Broadcasters how much his players are anticipating taking the court this weekend.

“They’re excited to play, I’m sure,” Kraske said. “Our kids have done a nice job and they’ll be excited to have a couple of games just because you can only practice so much before you can play.”

“We’ve had 15 spirited practices,” Kraske continued. “We’re off and running and I’m excited about this team.”

Havre’s first opponent will be the East Helena Vigilantes, who are new to the Northeast ‘A’ Division for this season. Coach Kraske provided some fun commentary on an opponent he has yet to see up close.

“It’ll be fun to play them both,” Kraske said. “We have zero familiarity with East Helena. They were part of a different league last year.”

“I watched them on tape last Saturday against Butte Central. It was a really back and forth game.” Kraske continued. “I know they have a couple of kids (who) seem like they are pretty salty on tape, so it will be fun to prep up for them”

From the inexperience to the experience is Havre’s opponent next with the Lockwood Lions coming to the Blue Pony Corral. Coach Kraske gives the listeners a retrospective on the opponent from down south.

“We played them at the divisional tournament a couple of years ago,” Kraske said. “They have two really nice guards that are both juniors and (they’ve) been good the whole time they’ve been there.”

“It was impressive watching them down in Lewistown,” Kraske continued. “They played very well. They’re a very well coached team. We’re excited to play them.”

Havre’s girls’ basketball will take on East Helena on the road on Friday night around 6:30. The Blue Ponies will then have their home opener on Saturday at 5:30pm. Both games can be heard exclusively on KOJM-610am, home of Havre Blue Pony Athletics.
