In a Class ‘A’ vs Class ‘B’ basketball matchup, Havre Lady Blue Ponies easily won their game against Malta on Tuesday night, (73-48), while the Blue Pony Boys lost a thriller in overtime to the Mustangs, (68-62).
For the Havre girls’ (11-3), they led (40-23) at halftime and had control of the ball game from the jump. Sophomore guard Amaya Jarvis led all scorers with 20 points, while sophomore forward Ariana Gary poured in 10 first quarter points to finish with 17.
For the Blue Pony boys’ (10-4), they played catchup for the second time in three games at home, trailing (26-7) at the end of the first quarter. Havre went cold from the floor and gave up too many buckets in transition to find themselves down. However, they final 24 minutes of regulation was superior for the Ponies, who ended up taking the lead with 4:20 left to go in the game, just as they had in their Dec. 12 meeting in Malta. Down three points with 3.1 seconds left, the Mustangs had to go the full length of the court and get a Bodie Brenden heave at the horn that was good from three to send it to overtime tied at 61. Malta clamped down on defense and only allowed Havre to score one point in the extra session. Brenden led all scorers with 23 points, while junior point guard Tre Gary finished with 18 for the Ponies.
The Lady Ponies and Blue Pony Boys will be back out on the court next on Friday to take on Fergus from the Blue Pony Corral, which are games you can hear on KOJM-610AM and HiLineToday.com
