Havre Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash in Liberty County

LIBERTY COUNTY, Mont. (NMB) – The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man killed in a motorcycle crash on Saturday as 74-year-old Charles Lowen of Havre.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at about 1:30 PM on Secondary Road 223 at mile marker 33, just south of the Marias River.

The crash report states that the man was driving a Harley Davidson FXDB northbound and failed to negotiate a left hand corner.

The vehicle drifted off the right side of the roadway, continued down into the northbound ditch, hit a barbed wire fence and tripped.

The motorcycle came to rest approximately 75 feet off the road. The rider sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

MHP Trooper Matt Erickson says it doesn’t appear that speed or alcohol was a factor, but there was possibly a mechanical issue.

The road was bare and dry.

Erickson says driver not wearing a helmet. No one else was involved in the crash.
