GREAT FALLS, Mont. (NMB) – A Havre man pleaded not guilty to two felonies related to firearm and drug charges last week in U.S. District Court in Great Falls.
Terry Lee Wells, Jr., 34, pleaded not guilty to the felonies of prohibited person in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. He also denied forfeiture allegations.
Wells was indicted by a Grand Jury on June 4th, 2020.
Court documents allege that on March 17th, 2019 in Great Falls, Wells was illegally in possession of a firearm because he has previously been convicted twice of federal criminal endangerment. Those convictions were in 2004 and 2005.
Documents also allege that in December 2019 in both Cascade and Hill Counties, Wells knowingly possessed and intended to distribute five or more grams of methamphetamine.
If convicted of the most serious crime, Wells faces a minimum mandatory five years to 40 years in prison, a $5 million fine and four years of supervised release.
Wells was detained pending further proceedings.
The FBI, Great Falls Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Tri-Agency Drug Task Force investigated the case.
Wells is also in the middle of a Hill County District Court case regarding his alleged role in a December 19th, 2019 high-speed vehicle pursuit in Hill County. The chase ended shortly after his vehicle struck a deer on the Beaver Creek Highway. He has pleaded not guilty to three counts of felony criminal endangerment and one count of misdemeanor fleeing from or eluding a Peace Officer in that case.
