GREAT FALLS, Mont. (NMB) – A Havre man was sentenced in U.S. District Court on Wednesday to 66 months in prison and five years of supervised release after previously admitting to dealing methamphetamine in the Havre and Great Falls areas.
Terry Lee Wells, Jr., born in 1985, pleaded guilty to the felony of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine before Judge Brian Morris in August. Wells also agreed to relinquish a semi-automatic pistol.
In the agreement, Wells admits to knowingly possessing at least five grams of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it.
Court documents allege that on March 17th, 2019 in Great Falls, Wells was illegally in possession of a firearm because he has previously been convicted twice of felony criminal endangerment. Those convictions were in 2004 and 2005.
Documents also allege that in December 2019 in both Cascade and Hill Counties, Wells knowingly possessed and intended to distribute five or more grams of methamphetamine.
Wells is also in the middle of a Hill County District Court case regarding his alleged role in a December 19th, 2019 high-speed vehicle pursuit in Hill County. The chase ended shortly after his vehicle struck a deer on the Beaver Creek Highway. He has pleaded not guilty to three counts of felony criminal endangerment and one count of misdemeanor fleeing from or eluding a Peace Officer in that case.
When Wells was taken to the Hill County Detention Center after the pursuit, Officers found a small baggie of meth on his person. Several weeks later, he admitted to federal agents that he had been dealing meth from 2017 through 2019. He also admitted that he had driven to Seattle in early December 2019 to buy meth for redistribution in Montana.
A jury trial for the pursuit case is tentatively scheduled for February 2021.
