HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre Public School Board held their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday evening.
The District is planning on remaining in the current hybrid model through the rest of the semester.
At the January 12th Board meeting, the District plans on deciding whether to move to phase 3A or 3B of reopening for the second semester, which begins on January 25th. Schedule 3A would see students in school buildings four days a week, with Fridays reserved for remote teaching. Schedule 3B would see five days a week of in-person learning. The determination will be made based on staff availability and the amount of community spread and positivity rate of COVID-19 in Hill County.
As for moving to Phase 3 earlier, Mueller recommends against it, saying that it could lead to increased cases following the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks due to people traveling.
Superintendent Craig Mueller says the District has been able to remain open due to their ability to social distance and minimal new cases and staff quarantines.
As of Tuesday morning, there are 13 active COVID-19 cases in the District (8 students, 5 staff), and 72 people associated with the District in quarantine after being identified as close contacts (65 students, 7 staff).
In total, 51 students and 24 staff across the District have tested positive for COVID-19, and 340 students and 51 staff have been quarantined at some point.
Highland Park Principal Mark Irvin provided an area report and discussed the online platform called ‘SeeSaw’ that they have been using for remote instruction. They just received over 80 iPads that they have lent to students to help facilitate remote learning. As for enrollment, they currently have 308 students. 41 students are remote-only.
Agenda items approved at the meeting:
- Several policy replacements or revisions due to recent federal changes to Title IX were passed on first reading. They will go through a second reading at the next scheduled board meeting
- An Alternative Science/Conceptual Physics/HiSet Test Prep Course
The Board is scheduled to convene again on November 24th at 12:15 PM.
