HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Students in the Havre Public School District head back to class this Wednesday, and Superintendent Craig Mueller says they are ready for their return to the classroom in the traditional five-days a week of in-person learning format.
“Looking forward, we’re excited to start the school year. We’re going to be extra cautious in our approach and our we’re dealing with the uptick in the number of (COVID-19) cases. But we’re ready to go and keep things in a direction that we hope is beneficial for students.
Mueller says that face coverings will not be required, but there are numerous other precautions they are taking to prevent and mitigate the possible spread of COVID-19.
“The other parts are social and physical distancing, that’s a big piece to this. Maintaining that distance, knowing that’s one part of what we’ve already done and will continue to do. Our buildings are not set up in the best scenario where you can keep a three foot distance from others at all times, so along with that, frequent handwashing and making sure that we’re keeping frequently touched surfaces clean and sanitized throughout the day are also important measures.”
Mueller says student enrollment numbers are similar to last year, and specific numbers will be provided at their regular monthly meeting in September. He adds that the vast majority of students will be attending classes in-person, with a “very small” number of Middle and High School students set to learn remotely.
The District is holding a free Welcome Back Indian Education for All (IEFA) Cook-Out on Wednesday at Highland Park Elementary School from 5:30-7:30 PM. Attendees can speak with administration and learn about how IEFA has and is continuing to be implemented within the District.
