HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Havre Public Schools (HPS) Superintendent Andy Carlson has announced his resignation.
Carlson has worked in education for 27 years and as the HPS Superintendent for 10 years. Carlson said this was a complex decision to make but he felt it was the right time.
“It’s a complex decision. You know, you’d like to boil it down to one thing or one circumstance and there really isn’t that. In my letter to the trustees, and I mean this because I wrote that letter as much to this community as I did to them, I wasn’t interested in being superintendent somewhere else. I said when I took the job, the hard part about taking it was that I knew I had to leave this community if I wanted to continue my career.
Carlson said he is going to miss a lot of things, but he feels at ease about this decision.
“You know, I’m grateful and there are a lot of things I’m going to miss…I actually am really at peace with it and I feel good about where the school district is. I think there are some great people here and honestly that’s what kept me going too. It’s just the right time.”
Havre Public School Board Chair Aileen Couch said they are truly grateful for everything Carlson has done.
“We thank him for a job well done and his commitment to the district. He’s been a great superintendent and the board really has appreciated his hard work.”
In Carlson’s letter of resignation he thanked Havre Public Schools and said, “I write this feeling blessed and with gratitude.”
Carlson’s resignation won’t be official until the HPS Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday, June 23.
