MALTA, Mont. (NMB) – U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Malta Station assisted in a rescue of three hunters stranded in this past weekend’s blizzard.
A press release says that Border Patrol agents were contacted by the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office, which needed assistance after receiving a report that three hunters were stranded in a remote area north of Malta.
U.S. Border Patrol agents used their utility terrain vehicle (UTV) that featured tracking capability to travel to the GPS coordinates of the stranded hunters.
Agents were unable to free the hunter’s vehicle due to substantial snow drifts, but were able to transport them back to Malta after several hours of slow travel.
Border Patrol Agent Melissa Hart says a local landowner was able to free the hunters’ vehicle by using a tractor.
