Havre Softball Drops Home Contest to Fergus

The Havre softball team began its first of four games this week by hosting Fergus on Tuesday at Sixth Avenue Memorial Field. The game turned out to be a seesaw affair that saw Havre come up short, (5-4).

Catcher Camille Keeley got things started for the Ponies, doubling in center fielder Jersi Morse for the game’s first run in the bottom of the first. The Golden Eagles came back with two runs in the next half inning, but Havre tied the game in the third as right fielder Rachel Jette plated Morse. The Ponies retook the lead in the fourth as Bree Hanson hit a solo home run to make it (3-2), Havre. It was her first home run of the season.

Havre allowed Fergus to score three runs in the sixth inning and the Golden Eagles held a (5-3) lead. Down to their final three outs, the Blue Ponies sent seven batters to the plate and were only able to come up with one run and ended the game with the bases loaded.

Morse was the only multi-hit Pony of the game, while Jette recorded two runs batted in. In the circle, Elle Verploegen took the hard luck loss for Havre, moving her overall record to (7-3). She did record nine strikeouts in the game.

Havre will hit the road for its only away contest of this stretch as the Ponies will face Glasgow on Thursday.
