Havre Softball Results – Bette Paskey Memorial Invitational Day 1

The Havre softball team opened up play at the Bette Paskey Memorial Invitational in Frenchtown on Friday afternoon. The Ponies took on Columbia Falls and Ronan, two of the powerhouse schools of Western Class ‘A’ and ended up splitting a pair of contests.

In the Columbia Falls game, Havre lost, (11-4) in six innings. The Wildcats scored all their runs before the Blue Ponies could get on the board. Despite only recording two hits, Havre stayed disciplined at the plate, drawing seven walks from Columbia Falls pitching.

The second game against Ronan was a different story as Havre generated more offense and got help in the circle, winning it, (7-4). The affair was a wire-to-wire victory for the Blue Ponies, which scored a run in the first inning and two in the second before Ronan got two in the top of the top of the fifth. Havre would answer with three in the bottom half of the inning to cruise to the victory. Center fielder Jersi Morse contributed a solo homer to open the game and was one of three Havre players to have multiple hits in the game, the others being right fielder Rachel Jette and catcher Camille Keeley. Elle Verploegen struck out a season-high 13 batters in the circle.

Havre softball has two more games on Saturday, taking on Dillon and Hamilton. Stay tuned to New Media Broadcasters for continuing Blue Pony softball coverage.
