The Havre track and field teams recently completed a full meet in Glendive followed by a top-10 meet in Glasgow. New Media Broadcasters broke it all down with head coach Kari Filius, who wrapped up the last few days of competition for her programs.
“They came back from Glendive pretty well,” Filius said. “It was a long trip and both boys’ and girls’s sides competed real well. We found out who’s strong in what events and found out where we are and got a lot of PRs.”
“And then, the top-10 was really nice,” Filius continued. “We had, I would say, probably five or six boys (who) were top-4 and probably 10 girls got medals and had some PRs (and) another state pre-qualifier.”
“So, we’re going in the right direction,” Filius said.
The Blue Ponies will be hosting their second meet of the season this weekend. Filius said what the strategy will be after managing part of the teams in the top-10 days before and what the home crowd will have to look forward to this weekend.
“So the kids (who) didn’t make the top-10, they’re going to be in their full events so they can have a nice home meet,” Filius said. “But the ones who were at top-10 will be a little lighter than usual.”
“Some of them won’t be full on because we don’t want them to get overworked and we don’t have enough time to recover as much,” Filius continued.
“But, it’s senior day also,” Filius said. “We want to make sure they get the events they want to do in front of the crowd in their last track meet in Havre.”
The Havre Lions Meet will have events all day on Saturday.
