HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Workers from Montana Conservation Corps have completed work on several trails in Havre.
The main project was a .4 mile down and back trail extension in Beaver Creek Park that goes from the northwest end of the Rotary Canyon Trail down to Rotary Falls.
“We always wanted the trail to have the opportunity for hikers to reach the Rotary Falls area because it is so beautiful,” says Havre Trails President Lindsey Bennett. “The trail as it’s designed kind of circles around the cliff and canyon, actually the coolest part of the canyon that leads down to the falls. So we definitely didn’t want to leave that out, and that’s the reason we added it.”
Other work completed included maintenance and repair work on the Rotary Canyon Trail and connecting the Devlin Trail near the MSU-Northern campus to the pathway at Highland Park Cemetery.
Havre Trails uses a portion of their funds annually to hire MCC crews to work on trails in Havre and Beaver Creek Park.
This year’s work cost around $5,000 and was funded primarily through proceeds from last year’s Havre Trails Brewfest.
Due to COVID-19, there will not be a Brewfest this summer, but Havre Trails is working on other ways to fund-raise, including by designing and selling line of apparel they have collaborated with Triple Dog Brewing on.
