Havre’s volleyball matches were limited over the last week due to the storm that came through Montana, forcing a postponement to Saturday’s Billings Central Catholic matches in the Blue Pony Corral. Head coach Cassie Krueger joined New Media Broadcasters to discuss what transpired for the lower squads last Tuesday and how everything went down in a raucous environment against Miles City at home.
“It was an exceptional week for my entire program,” Krueger said. “My JV and C-Squads swept Chinook last Tuesday and that was an amazing performance by each team.”
“Then (on) Friday, the entire gym was just electric,” Krueger continued. “C-Squad unfortunately took a loss, but JV went to five (sets) with Miles City and won. Then the varsity game went to five and we won as well.”
“The entire crowd and team was just fired up for it,” Krueger said.
With one more tournament and four more individual matches for each squad on the horizon, coach Krueger and her staff have pivoted to a long-term approach for how to prepare the players for what is to come.
“We took prepping for each individual team out of it as much as possible with the exception of if they have a very good defense or offense,” Krueger said. “We’ll make special changes to that.”
“We’ve been focusing on our side of the court and it’s been bringing a lot of lightness to our game,” Krueger continued. “Not focusing on any (officiating) or what the other team is doing and just making sure we are communicating and working together as a team, running an offense, playing together for defense, and all that.”
The Ponies will play at home against Fergus on Tuesday, followed by a road trip to Sidney on Friday. C-Squad and JV will also have matches against CJI on Saturday in Havre.
