HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The damaged water tank that was flooding nearby streets has been drained, but the Havre Public Works Department is waiting for assessments to be done by a contractor and engineer.
Director Dave Peterson says that the water stopped draining Tuesday afternoon, but the ice build up inside the tank is keeping from assessing the damage themselves. Peterson says that ice inside the tank is normal during cold weather. Once they assess the damage, they will decide how to move forward.
Peterson says that he has had reports of service lines freezing in Havre, which is the responsibility of the property owner. He recommends that people leave a small stream of water running in the home to prevent lines from freezing. Even though the weather has warmed up, Peterson says that there is still frost in the ground.
