HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A broken water tank in Havre has been repaired and they are refilling the tank this week. A few weeks ago, the Havre Public Works Department enacted a ban on outdoor irrigation to help conserve water while they repaired the manway that had failed.
Manager Dave Peterson says that they hope to have the tank filled by the end of the week.
“We are in the process now of getting that tank filled. So, it will take us a little time to get it filled based on, you know, just regular water usage and what we’ve got going on out there. We’re hoping that by end of the day on Thursday that we will have the tank, you know, pretty close to full.”
Peterson said the manway they replaced was installed when the tank was built in 1952.
“We ended up putting a bolted manway on there, which is similar to the one that was on there. So, this one, we know it can’t fail unless the gasket itself fails, but that’s highly unlikely. I mean, they’ve been using these for 100 years on tanks. So, should be in pretty good shape.”
Peterson says they started refilling the tank on Monday and plan to lift the irrigation ban once the tank is full.
