HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Last week, a Havre woman was sentenced to seven and a half years with the Montana Department of Corrections for aggravated assault and strangulation of a family member, both felonies. Brooke Ann Blacktongue was given credit for 71 days served, must spend 10 years on probation, and pay $200 for the two felonies. She is also required to complete a counseling assessment and 40 hours of counseling.
Court documents say that in April 2018, a woman called 911 reporting that she and Blacktongue got into an argument, but Blacktongue refused to let her leave. Blacktongue then started hitting and choking her. The woman kicked Blacktongue to get away, but Blacktongue grabbed a knife and threatened to kill the victim, who ran outside.
Blacktongue admitted to hitting the woman, but in self defense.
