The Havre wrestling team is gearing up for the first competition of the 2023-24 season. Coach Beau LaSalle gives New Media Broadcasters listeners a preview of the returning talent that is making their debuts for the Blue Ponies.
“Last year, we graduated just one senior that was a state champ for us,” LaSalle said. “We’re bringing everyone else back for us.”
“Tristan Stygles is a returning state champ for us from last year. Matt Lemer is a returning placer,” LaSalle continued. “We (also) just have a bunch of young guys that we’re pretty excited about. ”
“The incoming freshman? We have some studs in there,” LaSalle said. “And then for the girls’ side, we return I think four or five girls.”
Havre will look to start the season off with a bang when the school hosts the Havre Mixer as well as the Havre Invitational. Coach LaSalle sets the scene for what he expects on the weekend.
“We don’t get a lot of home matches, so we (definitely) marked that one on our schedule,” LaSalle said. “We get a lot of the Hi-Line schools (with) lots of quality kids.”
“Everyone gets five or six matches over the weekend and it’s just a good way to get your legs underneath you and it’s nice to be at home,” LaSalle said. “We’re excited for it.”
The Havre Wrestling Mixer will take place on Friday at 4pm and then the Havre Invitational gets going on Saturday at 9am.
