Havre’s ELF Food Drive is Set for Next Week

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Next week, Havre’s Food Bank and local firefighters will partner again for their annual Everybody Loves Firefighters, or ELF, Food Drive. Food Bank Manager Sammantha Nimmick says next Wednesday and Thursday, firefighters, volunteers and children in their Halloween costumes will be collecting donations door to door.

“This is generally our biggest food drive of the year. It provides a lot of our necessary non-perishable items to be able to provide for our clients. Last year, we were able to get 6,578 pounds donated, which was up just over 2,000 pounds from the previous year.”

Nimmick says they are in need of food items for their regular boxes, as well as items to go into their Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday boxes, like gravy, boxed potatoes, pie filling and cream of mushroom soup.

“We’re looking for some of our regular items that we generally need in our everyday boxes, including canned fruits, vegetables, beans, soups, some ramen, canned meats, definitely peanut butter, pastas, rice, mac and cheese, those kinds of things.”

Nimmick asks that volunteers meet at the Havre Fire Department at 6 PM to collect food, or at 7 PM at the Van Orsdel United Methodist Church to sort food.
