(Helena) Lawmakers in Montana are considering House Bill 483, known as “The Right Back Act,” which proposes to return $56 million in tax relief to residents while ensuring stable funding for public schools.
The bill seeks to utilize extra funds collected from property taxes to offer relief for costly school-related expenses. These include school transportation levies, county-wide school retirement levies, and school districts’ general funds.
The Right Back Act is built on the foundation of a previously passed bill, HB 587, which created a savings account for tax overages collected through 95 school equalization mills.
