HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – Early Tuesday morning, a malfunctioning gate at Hebgen Dam led to severely decreased flows of the Madison River, leading to fish being stranded.
Local residents scrambled to rescue hundreds of fish, but its clear many did not survive.
Dam operator Northwestern Energy says normal flows may take several days to restore and repairs are ongoing.
