HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – With warmer temperatures having arrived, the Hill County Weed and Mosquito District has begun their annual effort of fogging for mosquitoes.
District Supervisor Terry Turner says on Tuesday evening, they fogged areas in downtown and on the east, north and west ends of Havre.
“It looks like the temperature should reach (the upper 90s) on Thursday, so that will enable the mosquitoes to hatch out in 3-5 days. We have a few spots right now that are hot spots, and we’re looking at trying to protect the kids. They are still playing softball and stuff at the ballpark, so trying to cut down on the mosquito bites there.”
Due to regulations, the District is only allowed to fog each area 25 times throughout the season, unless a mosquito they trap tests positive for the West Nile Virus.
The chemical used to repel the mosquitos is a derivative of the chrysanthemum flower and is a safe product for people and pets. However, those with severe allergies that is concerned about the fogging is encouraged to go inside and shut windows until the fog subsides.
