HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Hill County Board of Health convened virtually on Friday afternoon to provide an update on COVID-19 in the area.
Hill County reported a COVID-19 related death earlier this week, the first of a county resident since late May and 46th since the pandemic began. Health Officer Kim Berg says the individual was under the age of 40.
The active case count as of Thursday morning was at three with one hospitalization.
Berg says that 42 percent of eligible residents are fully immunized, while 47 percent have received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine. Berg says she would like to see the number of fully vaccinated residents reach 70 percent, and they will be holding outreach events to educate the public, especially younger age groups with lagging vaccination rates.
“We’re trying to push out and provide as many opportunities as possible between all the different locations for vaccination. When it comes to us getting out in the community, we would love to use our van more. Hopefully we’ll be able to do that to go to different areas of the community and make it more accessible. But it comes down to staffing and time for us to be able to do that. So we’re working on plans. So my advice is to just continue being vigilant about protecting yourself and others from COVID-19, wash your hands frequently. Social distance if you can. If you can’t, wear your face covering. And just still be aware that it is still here and it is still out here and it is causing some major health issues and unfortunately causing some deaths still in Hill County and the state. So just stay vigilant.”
This was the final scheduled COVID-19 virtual update. The latest information on COVID-19 will continue to be provided by the Health Department, and meetings could resume if deemed necessary due to an increase in cases.
