HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A Hill County man that admitted to stealing one vehicle and using another without permission in December 2019 has been given a pair of suspended sentences in Hill County District Court.
Isaac Alexander Chapa was sentenced on Monday by Judge Kaydee Snipes-Ruiz to three years in the Department of Corrections, all suspended, for felony theft. He was also sentenced to six months in the County Jail, all suspended, for misdemeanor unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Chapa was initially charged with two counts of felony theft, but one of the charges was reduced to misdemeanor unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
The sentences will run concurrently, and Chapa will receive 32 days credit for time served.
Chapa was also ordered to pay $10,445.94 in restitution.
The plea agreement that was upheld during sentencing includes an admission that on December 11th, 2019, Chapa, “purposely or knowingly obtained or exerted unauthorized control over the property of another and had the purpose of depriving the owner of that property,” and that the property’s value exceeded $5,000.
The agreement also includes an admission that on December 13th, 2019, Chapa, “knowingly operated the automobile of another without their consent.”
In March 2014, Chapa was sentenced to five years in the Department of Corrections, none suspended after pleading guilty to one count of sexual assault in Hill County District Court.
