HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Hill County Rural Fire 1 District Board convened on Tuesday morning for their regular monthly meeting.
The Board unanimously approved several agenda items, including paying the City of Havre for fire suppression services in the District for the 2021-22 fiscal year. The payment is expected to be around $115,000, but the final amount has not been decided.
The Board also approved a resolution to pursue aid agreement contracts with local volunteer fire departments such as Bear Paw and Wild Horse. These agreements would see the rural departments provide assistance if the Havre Fire Department is tied up with other fires, or if they are looking for something like a stand-by fire unit to be outside an event.
The Board also approved a motion to pay for having three vehicles owned by the District towed from areas near Jacobsen Drilling and Diesel Doctor to Midwest Diesel, which is owned by Board member Neil Larson.
The vehicles are a 2013 Dodge flatbed, a 1967 International Fire Truck, and an International Semi Tractor. All are in need of repairs and are currently inoperable. The landowners where the vehicles are currently stored want them moved, so Larson has agreed to store them at his business.
The Board also announced that they have set up an online account with the Department of Administration to allow for them to communicate about issues when they arise.
Two of the five seats on the Board remain open, and they continue to accept applicants. Board member Neil Larson has his seat up for election in May, and the details of that election will be discussed at their January meeting.
Rural Fire District 1 is essentially a ring around Havre in which the Havre Fire Department provides fire suppression services, but the District is in charge of ensuring enforcement of fire codes.
