HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Hill County Council on Aging is seeking a grant that if approved, would help deal with the issue of elder abuse in the community.
Marci Bergren of the Council on Aging says the funds would create safe housing, counseling, and financial education for seniors that are being abused.
“This can be caregiver neglect, financial exploitation, physical abuse, or phycological abuse. And what we’re finding is the worst one is the psychological abuse, especially with the way a lot of our senior are hunkering down with COVID and everything.”
Bergren says they will also focus on making sure the abusers face consequences.
“We’re going to work on tracing what happens to the abuser all through the courts to make sure they aren’t doing that type of thing ever again.”
Hudson and Associates assisted with writing the application for the AmeriCorps Senior America Rescue Plan Senior Demonstration Program grant.
Bergren says if approved, the program will begin to be implemented by July 1st.
