The National Park Service recently designated Lewistown, Montana, as an American World War II Heritage City.
The American World War II Heritage Cities Program honors the contributions of local towns, cities, counties and their citizens who stepped into the workforce to support America’s war effort during World War II.
Lewistown’s B-17 Flying Fortress was established in 1942 to train air crews for European and North African missions. Nearly 1,000 GIs trained at the Lewistown Airfield.
