Interview with MSU-Northern Chancellor on Fall Semester

(Havre) – With The first week of the fall college semester now in session New Media Broadcasters talked with Montana State University Northern Chancellor Greg Kegel about his thoughts on the first week back.

“We’ve been working like we do all summer trying to get ready for the fall to begin. Wednesday is the first day of scheduled classes most of the students are probably on the campus right now we’ve had an eventful weekend with kids checking in and getting there residence halls all situated, and the numbers are looking good were really happy with the amount of students that are returning and the new freshman class coming in. So, yeah kicking it off there’s some excitement right now today out there and it’s nice to see kids out on the sidewalks.”

He goes on to talk about the upcoming Aurora Borealis Festival.

“I love it that thing that has been the most interesting to me is its engagement committee and it’s composed of staff people, faculty, students. all of those groups come together and put on a festival. And it’s just a chance for people to meet people across disciplines and student groups. It’s really good it’s got a lot of energy a lot of fun its great way to kick off the year.”

He goes on to talk about what new classes they have to offer.

“We haven’t put any in moratorium or lost any we’ve added a track in our Automotive program that I think is going to have some interest and a new minor in equine and I think that we’ve talked about that through the years it’s kind of the process that it takes a while to get it all hammered out and figured out. and that that one that’s one of the new ones we have this fall.”

He also talked about his favorite part of the first week back in session.

“I think that it gives me an opportunity to just introduce myself to them a lot of times we have parents that remain through that first day and it gives me an opportunity to visit with them as well. They’ve got questions a lot of times they’re concerned about the safety and well-being of their child. It’s an interesting time cause a lot of them are turning those young people over for the first time and I know what that like. I have two boys and went through that exact same process. So, that’s kind of something I enjoy doing, it’s really nice to see the ambitious faces of all the kids that are coming and high expectations on that first week, and yeah, it’s just a good feeling. A lot of energy.”
