MISSOULA, Mont. (NMB) – An investigation is underway after a Missoula Police Officer fatally shot a 21-year-old man following a vehicle pursuit on Thursday morning.
A press release says the Officer, who had three years of experience, was conducting a traffic stop of a driver suspected to be under the influence. The driver fled law enforcement during the stop, and the pursuit went through downtown Missoula.
When the pursuit stopped on Stephens Avenue, the suspect allegedly produced a handgun and fired. The officer returned fire with his department-issued handgun. Officers provided medical aid to the man, but he passed away after being transported to a local hospital.
The investigation is being conducted by the Montana Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation.
