(Rudyard) The old J&J grocery store in Rudyard has sat empty for many years, and on Wednesday the already depreciating building was torn down.
Lila Redding is a Volunteer at the Depot Museum in Rudyard, who says the tear down is meant to make room for a new building in Rudyard.
“We just had a donation so we just decided, and he was a gentlemen who had lived in Rudyard years ago, and he suggested that we tear down the old J&J grocery store because it was falling down anyway, and start a community center. So that’s what we’re doing, it’s a community project,” said Redding.
A community center for the town of Rudyard will replace the J&J building, which Redding says fills a need for an event location for the town. The museum will also have displays in the new building.
