MSU-Northern Lights basketball got the signature win of the weekend in the Frontier Conference, knocking off No. 9 Montana Tech on Saturday, (68-65). New Media Broadcasters caught up with head coach Shawn Huse after the game and he credited the defensive mindset that his team showed in holding one of the best offenses in the country stagnant.
“Our defense was a huge key, if not the key,” Huse said. “That said, we did make enough (shots) and had guys step up enough. I’m just proud of the team effort that we had.”
“(Montana Tech is) as legitimate of a team, obviously, that you’re going to play,” Huse continued. “Somehow, we held them down and we did enough to points on the board and get the win.”
Coach Huse broke down how he has seen his team and how he will see his team now that this confidence booster has taken place.
“It’s taken us longer to really gel and come together and know what we’re looking for,” Huse said. “(T0) work together offensively (and) defensively with the different rotations we have.”
“It’s been a bizarre year,” Huse continued. “Hopefully, we’re blooming late when everybody says you want to play your best basketball at the end of the year.”
“Hopefully, that is the case,” Huse said. “We know we have a lot of work to do.”
